History
Looking back along the arrow of time it can be seen that under Golaghat district there was no premier institute in the Marangi Revenue Circle to provide post-metric education until 1990. It was only on August 20, 1990 the then regional student’s union of AASU convened a meeting regarding the establishment of such an educational institution in the name of Marangi Mahavidyalaya. And thus in the presence of the parliament of education-enthusiast a governing body was set-up for the proper functioning of such an institution. Consequently Sri Tapan Ch. Bordoloi and Sri Padma Kanta Hazarika were entrusted as the principal and vice-principal respectively. The meeting presided over by the then headmaster of Pt.H.C.G.Bidyapith,Doigrong, Lt. Tusheswar Buragohain agreed upon the appointment of Sri Manik Saikia as the executive president and Sri Anil Saikia as the secretary. Thus along with many other persons from various spheres of expertise we were on our way home towards an institute for Marangi.
And that’s when for enlightening the young minds the H.S. classes began from 31st August, 1990 with 74 students in total. Initially it was organized in the premises of the Pandit Hemchandra Goswami Bidyapith. There some of the kindest personalities Lt. Keshab Chandra Sharma, Lt. Tusheswar Buragohain and Sri Nobo Kumar Singh along with Sri Dharmeshwar Bordoloi and Lt. Mohen Hazarika and Sri Lila Hazarika bestowed the students with their knowledge and wisdom. Then in time Lt. Ratul Borbarua, Sri Mohan Barua and Sri Jyotish Kumar Saikia enriched the teaching strength. From the establishment Sri Nipul Bora , office assistant and Sri Bipul Gogoi , Grade IV have been earnestly offering their service in the cause of the institute.
Land granted by the Kishak Bonua Samanya Samitti made it possible for the institute to shift to its present premise in 1991. In this case the secretary of the committee Lt. Babula Saikia and the family of freedom fighter Lt. Sonaram Barua too offered aid. In the age of kuccha infrastructure, the then MLA Sri Binod Gowalla provided funds for the first pakka infrastructure. Renowned businessman Lt. Ajit Barua also aided in the building of a room which is currently equipped as the Library. Lt. Narayan Saikia from Dholaguri funded for three rooms in the initial stage of its infrastructure. It is praiseworthy to mention here that NRL has helped the institution enormously in building the present view of the institute. Apart from Mr. Binod Gowalla, former MP Keshab Mahanta, former CM Mr. Tarun Gogoi, former MLA Aklius Tirkey supported the institute from time to time.
Here it would be cruel not to mention the generous public donations which helped in the various functioning of the institute in the initial stage. At times, Bhramyaman Theatres supported in boosting the economic status. Marangi Prathamik Shikhya Kendra, Doigrong Prathamik Shikhya Kendra and Followoni Prathamik Shikhya Kendra provided monthly contributions.
In building and shaping the institute as it is today there have been numerous contributions by the students as well. More than 500 students study in the institute in a session displaying vigour in sports and rarity in cultural activities along with their academic career.
The institute got recognition as a Junior College in 1996 and since 1997 it has been a centre for H.S. Examinations. In this regard the state government is praise worthy. Some of the posts from the teaching staff and the non-teaching staff were provincialised in 2013.
And this is with both pride and responsibility that we are wrapping this short; pride for we have stood tall against odds in time and responsibility for there is much more still to be done.
